What’s the best site you've seen lately? What's so
great about it? Spectra Visual Newsreader from msnbc.com - I believe its a fresh, modern, fun way to read or view news online, very interactive. I could easily spend an hour just reading the news. I think I like how DownloadSquad.com describes it:"The new Spectra Visual Newsreader grabs MSNBC stories, color-coded by category, and sends them flying around your screen like index cards in a wind tunnel. Maybe you don't want to get your news this way all the time, but it's fun to play with." Which designer (or design studio), do you most admire? Not one but a few studios: 2advanced.com, Joshua Davis Studios, Teknision Inc., Blast Radius and Shilo. What’s the strangest request you've received from a client? Come up with a design for a kettle that doesn't use conventional household electrical outlets and yet be a great product for rural areas without electricity. What’s your dream project (not client, but project)? To go direct and photo shoot the subject matter and still create the marketing material around the subject. If you were to change professions, what would you choose to do? A restaurant floor manager. Hosting guests or friends mixed with food and drinks is always exciting and entertaining. A great way to network as well. Design or technology? Which is more important? Why? I must admit that design is still very important but yet again the two are a marriage that help creative assignments be better. From where do your best ideas originate? From surfing the net and seeing other creative works from around the world is truly inspiring. I give thanks to the internet. How do you overcome a creative block? Either I go to the cinema or get a new dvd and try to think less about work or a problem. In one word describe how you feel when beginning a new project? Jumanji. What well-known site is most desperately in need of a redesign? Not sure if its that well known but the SABC main website needs a serious revamp! Doesn't feel African either. Do you have creative outlets other than Web design? Photography. What music are you listening to right now? Hôtel Costes, Vol. 7, downtempo/ lounge music. Great background sound while working. What product/gadget can you not live without? My 2006 white polycarbonate Apple iMac G5 Intel Core Duo. What’s the strangest thing you’ve bought online? Bought books and DVDs before. Nothing strange yet. What’s your favorite quote? "Know what you know, and know what you don't know. And know that I gotta know everything you know as soon as you know it... or sooner." Al Pacino as Walter Abrams, Two for the Money (2005). Do you have any advice for people just entering the profession? You gotta love what you do and patience at times can be a drag but hang in there, someone is always watching you. What’s one thing you wish you knew when you started your career? I wish I knew that I couldn't do everything I wanted alone but I certainly tried & am still trying. "No man is an island." - John Donne. |
